Rodrigo Séllos is a director, editor and script writer based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has a degree in Cinema and over the last 13 years has worked on feature and short films, TV shows for broadcast channels and streaming, music videos, webseries and advertisement videos.
 

In 2020 he won the prize for Best Film at the 53rd Brasília Film Festival, the most important festival in Brazil, with the feature documentary "Searching for Makunaíma''. The film was also part of the official selection of the Festival de Cine de La Habana (Cuba) in 2021. In 2022, the film was screened in the "Brazilian Modernism at 100" film program at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in New York and in Princeton University, commemorating the centennial of the São Paulo "Modern Art Week".
 

His latest short documentary “You don't know me" (2018) was awarded Best Short Film in Rio Int’l Film Festival, and Jury's Special Mention in the 21st Málaga Film Festival (Spain). The film was also part of the official selection of the 37th Vancouver International Film Festival and Bogotá Short Film Festival. His previous fictional short "Remedial Class" was selected for the 6th FESTin, in Portugal, and Star Film Fest 2015, in Croatia, among others. Séllos' first feature documentary "Here wackos are not swept under the rug" was screened at Rio Int’l Film Festival 2010 (Brazil) and in the 25th Festival del Cinema Latino Americano Trieste, in Italy.
 

As editor Rodrigo won the prize for Best Edit for the feature documentary "Invisível" at Cine PE 2024, directed by Rodrigo Hinrichsen. Séllos worked on other 12 feature films, including "StreetKids United II - The Girls from Rio" - produced by Stephen Daldry and Mike Downey; "Memórias do Grupo Opinião” - opening movie for the 24th It's All True Film Festival, and the fiction "New World", awarded as Best Fiction Screenplay and Best Actress at Rio International Film Festival 2021.

 

Among his latest work as director on Brazilian streaming service and TV, we can highlight "Happy Hour with Mariana Ximenes", awarded at Venice TV Award 2023,  annual television award held after the Venice International Film Festival, for best TV program in the Branded Entertainment category.
 

Rodrigo Séllos also directed and edited music videos and produced documentaries exhibited at International Festival del Nuevo Cine Latino Americano (Cuba), China International New Media Short Film Festival and Festival de Cine de Lanzarote, in Spain.
 

Rodrigo is currently developing his first fictional feature film called “Macuxi" and directing a new documentary about the 60 years of MPB - Brazilian Popular Music, through the history of the group MPB4, which also celebrates 60 years of career in 2024.
